I JUST NEEDED YOU TO STAY

Heartbreak is inevitable.
People come and go, and sometimes
they have more control over us than we’d like to admit.
But it happens, and the only thing that means is that you’re human.

So this post is for anyone going through
the aftermath of a break-up.

People change their minds.
Some sweep you off your feet, get bored,
and leave you hanging with nothing to hold onto.
Some people say the things they know
will make you want them even more,
the things you want to hear.
Some even go out of their way to break promises
and do all the wrong things when something gets lost in translation.

People can break you.

But I’m here to tell you,
it’s actually not the end of the word.
Birds will go on singing and you will go on living.
People will continue to walk in and out of your life,
and some of them are going to hurt you in the process.
Some of these people may leave a mark on your heart, some may not.
But that’s just a part of growing— part of being human.

You’re going to have to experience many people in your life,
and a lot of these people are going to either
hurt you, get hurt by you, or stay.
Unless of course you choose to leave.

But that’s usually how the story goes—
and the thing is, you have to keep in mind that
you’re going to have a lot of misguided
‘happily ever afters’.

A certain someone may be on your mind right now,
but that person will not be the only one
and will certainly not be the last.

For now, all you can do is look towards the future with open arms.
Sure, getting over someone is hard but it is possible
and in time, you’ll get there.
For now, look forward to the people in your life
who care for you unconditionally
and the little things that make your world go round.

Trust me, one person whose face
you’ll struggle to remember in a few years
was not what made your world go round.

I’m not going to tell you it gets better.
Because I honestly don’t believe it does.
You get better, and only you have the power
to determine your happiness.
So go out with your friends and enjoy being single.
Look around and take in the beauty of the world.

If you let yourself,
I promise you’ll come to realize there’s more beauty
surrounding us
than there ever was in an old lover.
There's more beauty in yourself
than in the memory of someone who you used to know.

You'll come to know that, in fact, there always was.
